PURITO Comfy Water Sun Block | Korean Skincare Review

Purito Comfy Water Sun Block SPF 50 Korean Skincare Review

With summer just around the corner, the importance of using sun protection comes up quite a bit. As someone who enjoys basking in the sun, I try my best to remember to apply a lotion with SPF, but I will admit I can be forgetful at times. I personally find coming across a sun block I actually enjoy using makes me less likely to forget to apply some. Purito, a Korean skincare brand I not too long ago had the pleasure of discovering (more on that here and here!), recently came out with their new Comfy Water Sun Block* which contains an SPF of 50+ and can be used on both the face and body. I've been using their Centella Green Level Safe Sun for the last few months which I have been absolutely loving, so I couldn't wait to put their latest launch to the test. The expectations were high, and I'll be breaking down what this sun block has to offer.

The first thing I wanted to touch on is that the Comfy Water Sun Block is a physical (mineral) sunscreen with EWG certified ingredients, as opposed to a chemical one, giving me peace of mind that what I am putting on my skin is actually safe. Physical sunscreens have been gaining in popularity in recent years since they have been deemed to be less harmful to the skin. I went a little more in-depth on this topic in this post, but to summarize, a mineral sunscreen does not penetrate the deeper layers of the skin as it acts as a UV ray deflector, as opposed to a chemical sunscreen, whereby your body actually absorbs harmful chemicals such as oxybenzone or avobenzone. Tests have shown traces of these harmful chemicals in the blood, breast milk and urine samples following use, which case in point shows just how the body can absorb these ingredients. (source)

What I have come to admire from Purito is that they care about what makes up their formulations. The Comfy Water Sun Block is not only cruelty-free and vegan, but it is also free of synthetic colorants and fragrance, and safe to use on children. Made up of 70% water, this super light-weight, quick-absorbing moisturizer is the perfect solution to a daily lotion that offers sun protection and does not feel pore-clogging or greasy. Beyond that, if you are someone who deals with problematic skin such as from acne and scarring like me, this lotion also has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. Sunscreen actives that make up this sun block are zinc oxide, titanium dioxide, and other notable ingredients include niacinamide, centella asiatica, orange peel oil, tea tree leaf oil and lavender oil. Since it is also void of nanoparticles, I don't have to worry about irritation occurring on my sensitive skin.

Scent-wise, the Comfy Water Sun Block smells very light and fresh, with the orange and tea tree extracts coming through. What I also really appreciate is that it does not feel like I even have sunscreen on compared to conventional sun blocks I grew up using which felt very thick, smelled very strong and would leave a white cast. As with any sunscreen, it is recommended to reapply this sun block often (every three hours is what I aim for) during a prolonged time spent outdoors, as well as right after taking a dip in the water.

The Purito Comfy Water Sun Block (60 mL, 2 fl. oz) can be purchased online at a very affordable price from both Amazon and eBay.
