March 2014 Empties

The most satisfying time of the month has arrived! I'll be breaking down to you the various beauty products I've used up over the last few weeks. Empties posts are some of my favorites to read and write - I just love the idea of sharing what has or hasn't been working for me, and hopefully this can help some of you in determining if some of these products are worth the try.

Tangle Teezer Compact Styler Instant Detangling Hairbrush

If you are someone who deals with "nest hair" as I like to call it, you are not alone. Having naturally wavy hair, mine tends to tangle pretty easily, so I have been on the lookout for that miracle product that will make it all better for a while now. Well, I finally found it in this brilliantly designed hairbrush called the Tangle Teezer Compact Styler. I'd heard many good things about it, and when I finally got around to trying it, I finally understood what all the rave was about.

La Roche-Posay Pigmentclar Spring 2014 Launch Event

Earlier this week, I was invited to an event hosted by La Roche-Posay for the launch of their new Pigmentclar Serum. If you follow me on Instagram, you might have already seen some of the pictures from that evening. The cocktail was held in a suite at the W Hotel in downtown Montreal. I have lived here my whole life and what I love so much about this city is that there are always new places to discover! The W Hotel has a very relaxed, feminine and sophisticated vibe to it, with dimmed pink lighting welcoming you in the main lobby and hallways. It reminds me very much of The Cosmopolitan Hotel in Las Vegas, which I got to visit last summer while on vacation.

Dorco Shai Soft Touch 6 Blade Razor | Review

What is one of the most dreaded beauty steps us ladies have to deal with to maintain smooth skin? I can already hear you say it: shaving! With the warmer season that is approaching, shaving becomes essential, especially when it comes to showing off our legs in those cute skirts, dresses, shorts, and capris on those sunny and mild days. I don't know about you, but I personally like to use reusable razors since I find the cartridges stay sharp longer, not to mention that it is an environmentally-conscious choice. I recently got to try Dorco's Shai Soft Touch 6 Blade System for Women* and wanted to share with you how I have been liking it!

NEW Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder

One beauty product which is absolutely essential in my makeup arsenal is pressed powder. Having combination skin, I need to set my foundation to make it last throughout the day, and also to prevent my T-zone from looking shiny. I especially like using translucent powder, as I find it keeps my makeup from looking cakey. Insert the new Make Up For Ever HD Pressed Powder*, which has quickly become my go-to powder for finishing off my face makeup!

Mavala 002 Protective Base Coat and Colorfix Top Coat

When it comes to nail care, finding a good base and top coat can be quite a hassle. I have tried my fair share of protective nail care products, but somehow haven't found any that I keep on repurchasing. However, I have recently been trying the Mavala 002 Protective Base Coat* as well as the Colorfix Top Coat*, and these two paired together have been providing the most amazing results! Let me break down to you why I like these products so much.

Biotherm Aquasource Skin Care | Review

I was invited to a Biotherm Blogger Event a few weeks ago (more on my experience here), and on top of getting to network with a lovely group of ladies, I also got to go home with a tote bag filled with three of their best-seller products from the Aquasource line, all of which contain life plankton cellular water as their active ingredient and are also free of paraben preservatives or mineral oils. Having been using these products for about a month now, I thought I would share with you how these products have been working for my skin.

NEW Make Up For Ever HD Cream Blush | #330 Rosy Plum

Although blushes are among my most favourite makeup items, I have just recently started dabbling into cream blushes. I honestly don't know what took me so long to try them out, but let's just say I was definitely missing out! One that has made its way into my collection lately is the Make Up For Ever HD Cream Blush in Rosy Plum* (#330). The brand has just recently launched their HD Blush line for Spring 2014, and I must admit it was hard to pick one shade out of the stunning 16-blush lot. I finally settled on Rosy Plum which I thought would be perfect for everyday wear as it is not too bright nor too dark for my fair skin. The shades in the line range from bright pinks, reds and corals to dark browns and purples, so there is bound to be a shade that will tickle your fancy!

Nail Care Must-Haves: Mavala Cuticle Remover and Cuticle Cream

I've only discovered the importance of caring for my nail beds a couple of years back, when I really started getting into nail care. I just went about my days thinking there was nothing I could do about my ugly nail beds - boy was I wrong! Trust me when I say that cuticle-targeted products really make a world of a difference in not only your nail beds' appearance, but also in their overall health. I recently got to put the Mavala Cuticle Remover* and Cuticle Cream* to the test, both of which have come in super handy for treating my hard, overgrown cuticles.

Mini Target Skin Care Haul

I was at Target the other day for the sole purpose of picking up a moisturizer, and somehow ended up coming out with more than I had planned on buying. Girl problems much? As promised, I am sharing the few items that made their way into my shopping basket. I repurchased a holy grail moisturizer, and also decided to try two other skin care products which caught my eye while perusing the aisle.

My All-Natural Dry Shampoo: Johnson's Pure Cornstarch Baby Powder

I wanted to share with you my secret to maintaining a clean-looking and volumized scalp for those "second day" and maybe even "third day" hair days: Johnson's Pure Cornstarch Baby Powder. I have been using baby powder as dry shampoo for what now must be the last decade, and recently switched to the cornstarch version as it is talc-free and contains all natural ingredients including - you guessed it - cornstarch as well as aloe leaf juice. Hey, let's put it this way: if it's good enough for a baby's bottom, it's definitely good enough to sprinkle on top of my head! I actually have to give credit to my mom for this beauty tip. Years ago, she suggested my sister and I try baby powder to keep our scalp oil-free, and to this day all three of use swear by this stuff. I have tried a few dry shampoos that come in spray cans (I'm talking about you Dove, Tresemmé and Batiste), and although they get the job done, they still do not compare to my beloved baby powder!
