Make Up For Ever Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation & Ultra HD Light Capturing Self-Setting Concealer | Review

Having been on a pressed powder kick for a while now, my heart skipped a beat when I saw that Make Up For Ever recently released their Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation*. I had previously reviewed their original Matte Velvet Skin Foundation (liquid form) and was overall really happy with the results, so I was looking forward to see if this one would yield a similar afterthought. The brand also not too long ago released its range of Ultra HD Light Capturing Self-Setting Concealer*, so  I decided to film a first impression using both together. Did my initial feel for these products go as expected? And do I still feel the same way having used them a few more days after filming? Keep reading to find out!

As you may know from reading my blog, I deal with facial redness, breakouts and scarring regularly. Although these skin issues don't bother me nearly as much as they used to, it's still nice to come across a foundation that can cancel it all out when I am looking for base makeup that provides more full coverage. As can be expected, Make Up For Ever has released a whopping 30 shades in their Matte Velvet Skin Blurring Powder Foundation range. I opted for shade Y225, which is usually my shade in their foundation lines, and it's a perfect match! This powder foundation is good for all skin types and provides a matte finish.

What's really neat is that the compact comes with a large mirror, as well as a dual-sided applicator: the velvet (white) side is meant to provide more sheer coverage, while the sponge (black) side should offer more full coverage. As you can see in the video, I actually preferred the result that the white side provided since it did not accentuate my texture and pores, and I was still able to achieve pretty full coverage! Over the last week, I've been wearing this foundation for different amounts of time. On the first days I had it on for 10 hours, others days I had it on for up to 14 hours, and I still stand by what I shared in my first impression - I get minimal shine, the foundation does not fade, and it does not accentuate drier areas.

TL;DR: I'm still as obsessed with it as when I first tried it!

My beloved Ultra HD Concealer which I've used multiple times in past tutorials was discontinued by Make Up For Ever and replaced with their Ultra HD Light Capturing Self-Setting Concealer. I was shade Y223 in the discontinued range, and opted for shade 12 in the new line. The original was very much yellow-based, while its replacement has a beige/rose undertone. Again, a variety is available, with 22 shades at your disposal. Instead of a squeeze tube, this one come with a doe-foot applicator. This concealer provides a natural finish, so it's not completely matte and has a healthy and brightening effect. Since it is self-setting, you can skip powdering your under-eye area without worrying about product moving around or creasing. It also provides medium, buildable coverage and is said to provide 12-hour wear. Final verdict? I love this one even more than the original! The shade I chose actually works even better for my skin tone, it's not too thick, easy to blend out and covers my dark circles without having to pack it on. Not only does it work great on my under-eye area, but it also effectively covers scars, moles, veins, and redness. It has definitely become my new go-to concealer, it's just so good!
