I first dabbled in some Pixi Beauty last year after trying a handful of their makeup and skincare, and after being thoroughly impressed, I was really looking forward to experiencing more of what the brand has to offer! For the past month, I have been testing out a couple of products from their Skintreats collection, namely the Glow Tonic*, Rose Caviar Essence* and Rose Flash Balm*.
As I shared in my InstaStories, the Pixi Glow Tonic (250 mL, US$29) is an exfoliating toner that I have been dying to try for years, so when this big personalized bottle of liquid amber showed up, I was over the moon - how sweet, right? It seems that anyone I came across online who mentioned the Glow Tonic was a fan, and after using it regularly for the past few weeks, I finally get it. As someone who deals with sensitive and acne-prone skin, chemical exfoliants have always been a better solution for me than their physical counterparts. The Glow Tonic contains 5% Glycolic Acid, an AHA which gently removes the top layer of dead skin cells to reveal more radiant-looking skin. Other key ingredients include aloe vera (one of my favourite natural moisturizers) and ginseng, which stimulates blood flow to skin cells and acts as a detoxifier when applied topically. I have noticed my scars lightening and my skin texture appearing more even and smooth over the short time I have been using it. All you need to do is lightly soak a cotton round and apply it on your face and neck, after cleansing and before moisturizing. The solution is alcohol-free and suitable for all skin types - I have not experienced any irritation, which is an issue I often face with toners.
I had not heard of the Pixi Rose Caviar Essence (US$24, 1.52 fl oz), and upon seeing the product I was very intrigued as it's unlike anything I have come across. The gel, serum-like formula contains visible suspended capsules of fresh rose and flower oils which are released when pressed into the skin. The formula also includes a plethora of antioxidant rich botanical oil extracts such as bergamot, macadamia, jojoba, grapeseed, olive and soybean. While I do enjoy the scent of rose, it can sometimes be a bit too powerful in certain products, but the scent in this essence is light enough for me to enjoy. After cleansing and toning your skin, simply apply a thin layer and follow up with a moisturizer - your skin will drink it right up!
Speaking of moisturizers, this is one of the Pixi Rose Flash Balm's (US$24, 1.52 fl oz) many uses. I like applying it following the Rose Caviar Essence at night and as a primer underneath my makeup, and you can even apply a thicker layer to use it as a bi-weekly mask that you can remove five minutes following application. Key ingredients include rose extract and rose flower water, olive leaf extract and witch hazel extract. I will say that the rose scent in this one is more pronounced, so that is something to keep in mind if you are sensitive to it. The balm is oil-free and glides on beautifully, so you do not to worry about a greasy residue. This is a great product to travel with as it is compact and can serve multiple skincare purposes.
