NEW Dermalogica PowerBright TRx Treatment Kit and Redness Relief Primer | Launch Event + Review

As you may already know, I am far from having perfect skin. Actually, it's been so long since I've had a completely clear complexion (well over a decade just to give you an idea) that I jokingly tell myself I was born with acne! In all seriousness though, having problem skin really impacted me in my teenage years. That's when I turned to makeup, and it definitely helped boost my self-confidence. However, just a couple of years ago it got to a point where I would not leave my house without some form of foundation or powder because I was so self-conscious. With a lot of practice and self-talk, I can tell you that I now often leave the house without any makeup on with it no longer phasing me. So what if I have a huge zit on my forehead? I will not longer let it keep me in hiding (or behind a makeup mask) 24/7. I still deal with breakouts, and as most people who have acne, I have a lot of scarring leftover. So when I hear about skin care products that target this specific issue, I am always really curious to try them out. This brings me to share with you Dermalogica's new releases: the PowerBright TRx range comprising the C-12 Pure Bright Serum*, Pure Light SPF50*, and Pure Night* as well as the Redness Relief Primer SPF 20*.

I was invited to the launch event for these products held at the Dermalogica à Montreal skin center and was treatment to a great evening of learning and meeting other lovely ladies - and it is where I finally got to meet local beauty bloggers Alexandra and Chelsea (p.s. make sure to check out their lovely blogs here and here!). We were treated to a personal tour of the location where they offer a free service called Face Mapping at the 'Skin Bar', during which a specialist analyses your skin and will recommend you the best Dermalogica products for your skin type, which are also available for purchase on location. This concept space also offers MicroZone, a 20 minutes treatment that can whip your skin back into shape and something called Active Resurface, a 45 minute treatment which, as the name implies, is a method used for smoothing out the skin to look and feel rejuvenated.

Moving onto the products I have been trying out: they are a great little regimen for my problem skin! The Dermalogica C-12 Bright Serum is formulated with a handful of botanical extracts including rice peptides and algae and works to fight the formation of melatonin to control hyperpigmentation and is perfect to use in combination with Pure Light and Pure Bright. It claims to help brighten the skin, and combined with Pure Light and Pure Night, should optimize results. I really like how it makes my skin feel refreshed and that it absorbs quickly.

Pure Light is a very nice daily moisturizer that has SPF 50 to prevent sun damage and contains ingredients such as red algae and hyaluronic acid to provide intense hydration and also battle dark spots and scarring. It has a very clean scent that I would compare to ginger, definitely very natural-scented.

Last in the kit is Pure Night, a heavy duty yet lightweight cream formula filled with vitamin C, cranberry and raspberry seed oils. It also has a pleasant light smell and sinks within seconds which is really refreshing in a night treatment.

These products can be bought in deluxe sizes in the Brightening Treatment Kit as shown above ($50 CDN for 3x10 ml) or individually as full-size products (retail prices are $120 for C-12 Pure Bright Serum, $106 for Pure Light, and $100 CDN for Pure Night).

Last but not least, I've been testing out the Dermalogica Redness Relief Primer SPF 20 ($62 CDN, 22 ml). This is my second time trying a green-tinted primer (see my review of the Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer in Green here), and between the two, I much prefer the consistency of this one and also that it doesn't have a strong scent since it is free of artificial fragrances, colors or parabens. Some key ingredients include oat kernel oil, ginger root extract, eggplant fruit extract, basil flower and tumeric leaf extract - it is truly packed with the good stuff. I immediately noticed that it blurs a lot of my redness when used on its own and it literally feels like a moisturizer, perfect for use pre-makeup application.

Overall, I am super impressed with how these products have been performing. They are not harsh and I am progressively seeing less redness and scarring from use.

  1. I just got the redness relief primer yesterday! I`m thinking it will be fitting for breakouts since that is really the only time I see redness! I have yet to try it.
