Nail Care Must-Haves: Mavala Cuticle Remover and Cuticle Cream

I've only discovered the importance of caring for my nail beds a couple of years back, when I really started getting into nail care. I just went about my days thinking there was nothing I could do about my ugly nail beds - boy was I wrong! Trust me when I say that cuticle-targeted products really make a world of a difference in not only your nail beds' appearance, but also in their overall health. I recently got to put the Mavala Cuticle Remover* and Cuticle Cream* to the test, both of which have come in super handy for treating my hard, overgrown cuticles.

Mavala's Cuticle Remover* ($12.00 CAD, 10 ml) comes in a small bottle, similar to a nail polish. It comes with a brush tip, which makes it super easy to apply all around the nail bed. I simply brush on the clear formula, wait about a minute, and then gently roll my cuticles back with the cotton covered manicure stick that is provided in the box. I recently learned that using a metal instrument is very damaging to the nail, so the wooden stick gets the job done while protecting my nails from getting uneven ridges. When I'm done, I just rinse my hands under soapy water, and voilà - I am left with clean and beautiful-looking nail contours! My nail polish looks ten times better when there is no overgrown skin taking over my manicure, and nail polish application itself is so much easier as the polish doesn't bleed onto the skin around my nails (a problem I used to struggle with all the time when painting my nails).

Now, the Mavala Cuticle Cream ($12.50 CAD, 15 ml) is the perfect product to use daily to keep those cuticles hydrated and to prevent them from becoming rock hard. This cream is designed to soften the cuticles, and having more of a waxy texture due to its main ingredient being lanolin, it is best used at bedtime to allow the formula to completely penetrate the skin. I simply apply a very small amount on each nail and make sure to massage the cream all over my nail contours. When I wake up in the morning, my nails feel very moisturized, and my manicure looks so much better too as the focus isn't on the disturbing overgrown skin surrounding my polished nails!

If you are suffering from poor nail beds, I would highly urge you to try these. Your nails will seriously look so much better when they are given some extra TLC! :)

Mavala products can be found in most Canadian drugstores as well as online here.

  4. I totally agree! Sometimes I have to take a break from the polish because it can strip my nails. I have been using natural oils on my cuticles. Thanks for the recommendation!
