MAC Powder Blush in Well Dressed

It's been a long time coming, but I finally got my hands on a MAC blush! MAC has one of the largest selections when it comes to blush colours (or any other makeup for that matter), especially considering they have both permanent and limited edition collections. I got a permanent shade called Well Dressed, which is a satin that MAC describes as an immaculate pink, but to me it looks more like a dusty rose.

I had really high hopes in terms of pigmentation , but was left quite disappointed. Although the shade looks beautiful both in the pan and swatched on the finger, once I applied it on a larger area it practically vanished! I have a relatively fair skin tone and found myself having to pack it on in layers, and still the pigmentation was lacking. On the swatch picture below, I actually had to dip my finger in the pan five times for it to properly show up on my arm!

Considering this is a high end blush, I expected much more in terms of colour payoff. Since it is a lighter blue-based pink with cool undertones I am thinking it might be more visible on darker, olive skin tones. Since I am at my fairest now I am hoping it will show up more when I have a bit of a tan in the summer.

As you can see in the picture above, it barely even looks like I am wearing blush! I still managed to put a smile on for the camera though! ;)

If you've tried this blush, I would be interested to know how it showed up on your skin.

MAC powder blushes retail for $25 in Canada.

  1. Aw, that's such a disappointment! I've heard such great reviews on this blush too :( I've yet to own a MAC blush, but I do have a few on my wishlist.

  4. Oh thank goodness I wasn't the only one that was severely underwhelmed by this product!

I first saw it on Tanya Burr and thought it looked beautiful on her so when I got it, I was totally surprised at the lack of pigmentation!

    Great post doll :)

  5. That is such a shame that the pigmentation wasn't there! I haven't tried any blushes from MAC apart from the blush/bronzer combo from the Riri collection! I will definitely have to try them on if I ever go to get one for myself! :) I hope you'll eventually find one that you love!

  6. That is odd about your Well Dressed. I own the blush and mine is pigmented. I would take it back to MAC and tell them you would like another. :( I would also try their mineral blushes. They are amazing.

My favorite MAC blush is Warm Soul and Love Joy.

  11. (Holy carps you are gorgeous)
I've never tried a MAC blush either, but maybe you got a bad one? :( (ASK FOR AN EXCHANGE BECAUSE THE COLOUR IN THE PAN IS SO NICE)
But if it turns out you did get a proper one, then that would be embarrassing on MAC's part :(

  12. That's really disappointing. I only have 1 MAC blush and it is a mineralize blush and it has pretty terrible pigmentation too. I still like the finish applied over other blushes but on it's own it is barely there.

  13. hmm youre' right, it's not exactly obvious on the skin. i wonder if youve gotten one that was more dry than normal b/c i've seen it on others and it shows up quite nicely (having said that, they could have really packed it on too) not sure...

  14. I quite like how natural this looks, but I'm not sure I'd want to pay the full price for it. I think I'd be a little disappointed too!

  17. I own this Mac blush and I actually love it. It's true that it not really pigmented but it looks very natural on the cheeks and it gives a very pretty glow effect, which I love. I have fair complexion as well. I think it looks beautiful on you! :)

  20. Aw it's a shame this blush didn't work out for you, I really like it. It has a special place in my heart because it was one of the first MAC blushes I ever purchased when I started getting into makeup years ago. Another fav of mine is Blushbaby. It's so flattering!

  23. This was my first MAC blush and like you, I was very disappointed with it. For the price, I expected much better pigmentation.

  24. aw i have wanted to try mac blushes for ages but thats rubbish that it wasn't very pigmented!!Dior discontinued my fav blusher & replaced it with one that had awful pigmentation so I've bought myself some sleek blushes and they are just so much better than the very expensive new dior ones!!Im now following your blog girlie:)xx

  25. You look lovely! =)

I'm surprised to read this review as it seems to be favored in the blogosphere by people of many skin-tones.

  26. How disappointing! I love Mac products but I would be massively disappointed to spend that much and have it hardly show up at all. It doesn't really show at all in your picture!

  27. Just found your blog through the Let's Be Friends link-up! I've never tried this shade before...that's so disappointing it didn't show up because it looks like such a beautiful shade! I'm sure they'd let you exchange it for another color.

  28. too bad about that! You still look gorgeous though :) I've only tried their mineral blushers and they are a tad too shimmery! I want to try one of their other blushers and this seems like a shade I would be attracted to! I guess I'll look at some other blushers from them!
