MERIT BEAUTY | Review + Five-Minute Minimalist Makeup Look

These days, the market is so saturated with emerging beauty brands that it takes a lot to grab my attention. Merit Beauty* is one that stood out from the rest to me. The brand was founded by Katherine Power, who is also the co-founder of Avaline Wine alongside Cameron Diaz. I was immediately drawn by the simplicity and ethos of the brand, featuring a small selection of products meant to keep your makeup routine fresh and most importantly, with no harm done as the ingredients are clean and non-toxic. I was excited to put these luxury products to the test in my latest video and share my thoughts and first impressions with you.

This quick, five-minute minimalist makeup look was achieved using just a handful of products, most of which are from Merit Beauty, also available at Sephora!

The first two products from Merit I reached for are The Minimalist Perfecting Complexion Stick in Ochre and Brush no. 1 Blending Brush. I opted for a darker shade in the foundation as my skin became a few shades darker this summer but I was worried the shade I chose would be too dark. Luckily, it's a perfect match! Paired with the Blending Brush, it is incredibly easy to disperse on the skin and provides medium, buildable coverage. Despite not powdering, it also lasts a good few hours on my skin without making it shiny. The brush is so incredibly soft and is the perfect companion to the stick for a flawless application.

On the cheeks, I opted for the Merit Flush Balm Cheek Color in Terracotta. It can look a bit intense in the pot, but the shade is on the sheer side once applied and looks quite subtle on the skin after just one layer. I used the same Merit brush to blend it out and love the effect that it gives! It really makes you look naturally sunkissed! I still like using a bronzer, but this on its own provides a nice hint of colour too. For my lips, I used the Merit Shade Slick Tinted Lip Oil in Pink Beet. The selection of shades makes it hard to narrow it down to just one, but I'm glad about my pick! It's definitely a "my lips but better" shade and I love the texture it provides: not too oily, not sticky, and just the right amount of tint and glow.

For my brows, I chose the Merit Brow 1980 Volumizing Pomade in Blonde. My preference is usually brow pencils as I find they are more precise, but I've been impressed by this gem! It fills out any sparse areas so quickly and still provides good definition. It also sets my brows in place so I don't feel the need to follow up with a brow gel. I love trying out new mascaras, and the Merit Clean Lash Lengthening Mascara in Perfect Black has been a lovely addition to my collection. I find that I need two coats to achieve my desired effect, making my lashes look more fluttery and long. It's more of a natural mascara look, but that is my personal preference when it comes to the mascaras I gravitate towards. No clumping or transferring throughout the day either, and it's long-lasting too. I also put a bit of brown eyeshadow in my eyelid crease to make my eyes pop just a bit more.

  8. I like a lip color or tint that is like you said, 'my lips but better.' Something subtle to enhance but not overpower, especially true for work.
