Bioderma Photoderm Mineral SPF 50+ Spray and After Sun SOS Soothing Mist | Review

Bioderma Photoderm

The fact that I am sitting here writing about summer skin care makes me excited beyond measure. This is truly my favourite time of the year! I was actually first introduced to Bioderma's Photoderm line a couple of months ago when I was invited to preview their new spring and summer skin care products. Spending a lot of time outdoors come warmer weather, I knew I would get a lot of use out of their new Photoderm Mineral SPF 50+ Spray* and Photoderm Intense After Sun SOS Soothing Mist*. Well, it's been sunny, hot and humid these last few weeks, so I've really gotten the chance to put these to the ultimate test!

When it comes to sunscreens, I grew up mostly using chemical sunscreens, but in recent years I've discovered just how efficient physical sunscreens are. The main difference between the two is that chemical sunscreens absorb the sun's UVA and UVB rays and contain ingredients such as oxybenzone and octinoxate, while physical suncreens deflect the sun's rays and contain active mineral ingredients including titanium dioxide and zinc oxide. The debate is ongoing as to which type of sunscreen is best - from personal research I've found mineral sunscreens to be the safest.

Bioderma Photoderm SPF 50+ Spray

I was really happy to see Bioderma come out with their Photoderm SPF 50+ Spray (C$28.90, 100 g) for both face and body. Made with a 100% mineral sunscreen filter, this high protection spray is a great alternative for those who are sensitive to the sun and allergic to chemical sunscreens or fragrances, while still being water-resistant. Not only that, but the spray also acts as an antioxidant, with vitamin E protecting the skin from the sun's harmful rays. As with most physical sunscreens, this does leave a bit of a white cast and takes some rubbing in for it to go away, but the effort is well worth it in the end. Many sunscreens have broken me out in the past, but this one hasn't, so if like me you have acne prone skin, this might just be what you need to avoid that dreaded sunburn (or breakout)!

Bioderma Photoderm SOS After Sun Soothing Mist

Speaking of sunburns, I got a really bad one on my stomach five years ago when I was in Cuba and thankfully haven't had one since. While I resorted to natural remedies when I got home, sometimes when you are travelling you just need a quick fix to soothe your skin. Enter the Bioderma Photoderm SOS After Sun Soothing Mist (C$19.90, 125 mL) for immediate relief. Best part? No need to touch your skin! This mist hydrates beneath the skin's surface to soothe and cool it down, but also prolongs your tan - now who can say no to that? Just like the Mineral Spray, it can be used on both your face and body (but please spray it on your hands first - you don't want to learn the hard way!)

I know I will be getting a lot of use out of these in the next few months!

Bioderma can be found in Canadian pharmacies nationwide.

I'd love to know: are you a diligent sunscreen wearer?
