Mavala 002 Protective Base Coat and Colorfix Top Coat

When it comes to nail care, finding a good base and top coat can be quite a hassle. I have tried my fair share of protective nail care products, but somehow haven't found any that I keep on repurchasing. However, I have recently been trying the Mavala 002 Protective Base Coat* as well as the Colorfix Top Coat*, and these two paired together have been providing the most amazing results! Let me break down to you why I like these products so much.

002 Protective Base Coat  ($14 CAD, 10 ml) is designed to create a smooth canvas for the polish to adhere to, while preventing coloured polish from staining the nail surface by forming a flexible barrier. I cannot even tell you how may times I've had this nail situation happen to me, and it definitely isn't fun having to scrub vigorously at my nails or having them all stained and practically impossible to completely clean off. Thankfully, this base coat works like a charm at preventing this from happening! Not only that, but it is also formulated to absorb shocks, which is definitely a plus considering how much my nails go through during the day.

Colorfix Top Coat ($14.50 CAD, 10 ml) on the other hand is designed to seal the finished manicure and make it last. This top coat is formulated with acryl to give the nails that hard elastic durability, and is supposed to prevent chipping and peeling. I usually start to notice chipping after only one day (pretty sad, I know), however with this top coat my first chip only happened after the 48 hour mark, which is a big thumbs up in my books. What I like so much about Colorfix is that it provides the most glossy finish, giving my nails that gel-like look.

I had my sister put these products to the test as well, and we were both very satisfied with their performance! If you are looking for a good nail protective duo, you should definitely gives these a try.
Mavala nail care products are available at most Canadian drugstores as well as online here.

If you are interesting in reading more about other products by the brand, I also have reviewed the Mavala Cuticle Remover and Cuticle Cream, the Oil Seal Dryer, and Double-Lash.

Do you have a holy-grail base and top coat?

  1. Great review! My favorite top coat at the moment is X Formula at Sephora, mine don't usually start chipping until the 4 day mark! It's great!

    1. Yeah they are definitely on the pricier end, but definitely worth the price in my opinion.

  4. The Seche Vite topcoat and Orly rubberized bottom coat tend to work really well for me, but I'll have to give Mavala a go too, I think!

  9. These sound really great! I've been using the Sally Hansen Nail RX for a base coat and the SH Mega Shine for a top coat and really like both.
